Pete Carroll

So as you probably have heard by now, Pete Carroll has left us (USC) for the Seattle Seahawks.  Back to the NFL he goes.  I, along with a lot of other USC folks are a bit depressed about this as one can imagine.

All of the time that I was at USC from 1983 to 1988, we lost in football a far as I can remember.  In fact, at my high school in the San Fernando Valley, we lost pretty much the entire time I was there.

But at some point, and it’s not clear to me, I heard about this coach at USC after I had graduated who started kicking butt with USC football.  Finally, I could be really proud of our team.

He was such a strong coach, and such a nice man too.  I can say that for sure because I met him after they won the Orange Bowl a few years back, and I had a few words with him before we got a picture together.  He was such a nice and authentic man.  It was a rare instance off finding out that the superstar is actually a great man.

I heard him on the radio today saying that he is a man who takes opportunities when they come.  He has that competitive spirit in him.  And the chance to do something in Seattle, and probably for a nice bit of change, was something he wanted to take.

So I will miss him, and I’m sure most of USC will miss him.  All I can do is praise him for what he did for us for so long, and wish him the greatest of luck!

And now, if you will indulge me one last time as I show off my very special photo.
