I came out of my aunt’s lobby and got into a cab in which mom and dad were already waiting for me. We went to Penn Station and I sat with a girl from Connecticut who was going to check out Westchester College as a possible school choice. I urged her not to go to school, but rather to get into plastics manufacturing (just kidding).
My parents and I stayed in two rooms at the Radnor Hotel. We checked in, ate at a little diner near by and then later went to my cousin’s pre-bat mitzvah dinner. I sat with a family friend named Nancy, aged 44, who talked about her pet rabbit named, “Bunny.” I didn’t actually know this woman. She was a friend of one of my cousins on my dad’s side of the family, and she never let up on me. I found myself trying to hide from her by the end of the evening.
When then all went to the service at the temple located a few miles in the countryside. A few prayers were said and songs sung, and then we all went to the hotel.
